Menzel Elektromotoren responds to motor call out

19 July 2023, Published under Cement News

German manufacturer Menzel Elektromotoren received two orders for large machines within one week in early June. Due to motor failures, the water supply to 30,000 households was threatened and production in a cement plant was halted. After delivery times of only six and 10 days, respectively, both the pump and the cement mill could be restarted. Faced with unexpected downtime due to equipment failures, customers often cannot afford to wait for a motor manufactured from scratch. Standard deliv...

Menzel Elektromotoren supplies replacement motor

26 August 2022, Published under Cement News

Menzel Elektromotoren has built a replacement motor for a cement plant in Pakistan that can drive any one of three applications: the raw mill, another cement mill or a fan.   The motors originally installed differ in various features. Moreover, as the available installation space was extremely limited, a Menzel engineer visited the site to take all the measurements.   The solution was a compact slip ring motor in frame size 710 with the cooling system tailored to fit around a ste...

The manufacturer has experienced substantial growth in recent years and has outgrown its present headquarters in central Berlin. “Our new location will feature state-of-the-art machinery, efficient logistics, larger hoist capacities for optimised production processes and high energy efficiency,” says CEO, Mathis Menzel, on the occasion of the signing of the contr...

Menzel Elektromotoren completes Middle East motor order

05 August 2021, Published under Cement News

Menzel Elektromotoren has built two bespoke slip ring motors to drive the mills in a cement plant in the Middle East. The order required replicas of the original motors to be supplied, each with two shaft ends and precisely fitting all existing interfaces.   Menzel’s motor design ensures full mechanical and electrical compatibility with the failed previously installed machines of Japanese make. The original manufacturer no longer offers this design, which features relatively unusual dime...

Menzel supplies slipring motor for Canadian customer

23 January 2019, Published under Cement News

Menzel Elektromotoren has supplied a spare motor to a Canadian cement plant. It equipped the plant with a 4.5MW motor from stock and built an extended shaft. The new slipring motor had to be sufficiently reliable to replace three existing crusher motors in case of a failure.  Menzel fitted adapter plates with mounting holes for all three locations as well as brackets for plug-and-play mounting of vibration sensors for condition monitoring. In addition, the terminal box was fitted with long ...

Bolivia: motor for mill 4000m above sea level

18 August 2016, Published under Cement News

German company Menzel Elektromotoren has delivered two motors to a cement plant in Bolivia for a cement mill and a classifier. The mill in question is not only Bolivia’s first VRM, but at 4000m above sea level it is also the highest installed elevation of an OK mill in the entire Americas. Due to the mill’s location, particular technical attention had to be paid to the durability of the motors. Menzel modified its standard motors further so they would be able to withstand special operatin...

In November 2015 electric motor manufacturer Menzel Elektromotoren from Berlin ended a serious production interruption at a cement plant in Cambridge. After three days following the failure of both the mill drive and the existing reserve motor, the plant operators suddenly faced a full-scale production shutdown. On a Friday night, they turned to German motor manufacturer Menzel with a request for the construction and delivery of a replacement motor – and by Monday, a new identical motor wi...

Menzel delivers seven motors to North African plant

07 July 2015, Published under Cement News

Menzel Elektromotoren has engineered and delivered six new motors between late 2014 and June 2015 for a North African cement plant. A seventh will follow in August 2015. All of the motors are replacements for legacy drives in the plant, the largest being a six-pole size 800 slip-ring motor with 4800kW rated power, 11,000V rated voltage and a speed of 992 min-1. As the customer wanted to retain the old starter for this motor, the new motor needed to feature completely identical rotor da...
